Over 10 years ago my husband and I got married after he immigrated here on K-1 Fiancé Visa. Which meant that I had to support him financially and being a beginning teacher, I didn't make a lot.
We made due with a lot of hand me down furniture, free facebook marketplace finds, and clearance furniture.
And to this day we still have an old cubby storage from my college apartment in our closet!
After 8 months his green card was approved and we were able to buy our first home less than a year later.
I spent weekends and summers making our house a home, focusing on the living room, outdoor space, kitchen, entryway...never our bedroom.
Then we had kids. So projects quickly started for a nursery. I converted our dining room into a playroom.
Still our bedroom had only the essentials, a bed and nightstands.
Last summer I finally started on our bedroom, as our 10 year anniversary was approaching and our family was complete. I added picture frame molding and opted to keep white walls in our room so that I could easily add different colors with the rug, bedding, and curtains.
(It's also just less overwhelming to have a neutral space when the rest of the house has color everywhere and often times messy/chaotic)

I added trim to the ceiling and then spaced the boxes out by 4 inches in between each box and the side walls. I have 9 foot ceilings and took the bottom boxes up 3 feet and the larger ones were within 6 feet.

From the instagram reel our refresh with Living Spaces

I have been wanting a cabinet for our bedroom to display sentimental items like the shoes I wore on our wedding day, and the ashes of my first dog I adopted in college; along with tons of frames to get my favorite photos off my phone!
I love that this cabinet (linked here) has a drawer for each of our kids. I can keep all their sweet baby keepsakes and items that are too precious to get rid of in one place that is easily accessible.

Since all the kids' bedrooms are upstairs and our room is downstairs, I really wanted a place in case they were sick or we needed to offer Kolbie's room to guests staying with us. This chair is perfect. Not only is it a great spot for me to read (or dump a laundry basket) but I love that they can hang out there while I'm getting ready in the bathroom too.

We also wanted some new nightstands that were more contrasting with the white walls and these black ones are perfect for the space! I love that they plug in and offer 2 usb ports in the back for charging devices.
These were so easy to assemble, just needed to add the legs on each side.

One thing we've never had in our bedroom is a tv. But I felt like this wall needed something above the chair. I added one of my favorite family photos but still need to frame it out.
The final items from our refresh with Living spaces are the marble based floor lamp, linked here.
And the gold side table, linked here.
Having our room finally finished has definitely motivated me to make our bed more and keep the space picked up...
But you can still find picture books, tiny dinosaurs, cars, and various other toys anywhere and everywhere in here too. While this is my husband and my bedroom, we want our kids to feel welcome in here and to know that they are our greatest joy.

I always get asked about our bed. It has been discontinued from Pottery Barn for years, but here are some just like it!

You can find the frames that I have above our bed linked here.
